Picking yamamomo
|
|
On 25th May, on our way to the Farmer's Market, we stopped by a hilly ground where there are rows of yamamomo trees or Myrica Rubra (the latin name).
Most of the ripe fruits are plucked off and even some unripe fruits are found twisted on the ground. Anyway, we found some red cherries quite far on top. I wanted to eat the ones that have fallen on the ground but got told off by my hubby.
So, he got up and climbed on one of the trees and picked some ripe cherries. Immediately, I threw those cherries in my mouth and what a sourful surprise....it's not ripe yet eventhough red.

Orientation Shuri High School Apr. 7, 2005
|
|
April 7, 2005 is Tomo's Hi-Sch Orientation. Shuri Hi, is the oldest school on this island, 203 years. Ayumi now in Ryukyu Univ. was also from that hi-sch.
The Orientation Ceremony took 2 hrs. The parents were already seated when the new students walked in class by class. There were speeches by the School Principal, the PTA leader, the Student's leader and an officer from the education ministry.
When the students walked back to their individual classes, there was a speech by the school principal with the parents only. Lots of advise and procedures were explained.
The new students go through hi school for three years in Japan.

Colmar Tropicale - Oct. 5, 2004
|
|
Hanisah drove from Bandar Baru Bangi to Bukit Tinggi. The weather on this peak feels at 20c to 23c...cool and less humid and most important of all, peace and quiet from KL.
Kak Raja Norliah dan Aida's mom came with us and we had a very traditional French tea with real french bread there.
Like a picture postcard come alive at your doorstep, Colmar Tropicale, located in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang, is a replica of a collection of buildings from a northeastern village in France dating back to the 16th Century. Accessible via the picturesque Karak Highway, the resort is only 40 minutes from Kuala Lumpur, and the latest addition to Bukit Tinggi Resort, a renowned multicultural resort destination. Surrounded by lush tropical forest land, the 260 units of hotel rooms and one to six-bedroom suites are made up of eight blocks of architectural wonder, each with its unique style, from its colorful roof tiles to cobblestone ground.
There are fountains and park benches in the square for relaxation after a hard day's work browsing in the 17 theme shops, or should one wish to take a breather from participating in the various activities. The drawbridge reminiscent of ancient castles, clock tower with an original cuckoo bird clock, and the viewing tower complements the ambience.

Taiping Lake Gardens, Perak on 4th Oct. 2004
|
|
Crossing over Penang Bridge, we made our way to Taiping, where Aida has a family house here. Overnight we stayed at Hotel Seri Malaysia, had a morning dip at the pool there with NorAdura and her daughter. We checked out and made our way to Taiping Lake Gardens.
Here Liza's hubby picked her up to go back to Penang.
Romance is not what Taman Tasik Taiping is all about. Often overlooked is the lake gardens' history. It is said to be the oldest lake gardens in Malaysia, opened to the public in 1880.
Once a depleted and abandoned yet rich mining area, the sprawling greens and lakes have since helped make Taiping popular, thanks to a British officer Colonel E.S.F. Walker.
This 62-hectare park is one of the biggest and most beautiful parks in the country. It offers lush greenery, a beautiful lake abounding with freshwater fish, a gazebo and a colourful profusion of flowers.

We, NorAida the driver, NurAdura & daughter, made our way north to Penang on the 3rd Oct. 2004.
On the way to Penang, we stopped at Masjid Ubudiah and admired the gold dome of the mosque.
Located in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. Built in 1917 during the reign of the 28th Sultan of Perak, Sultan Idris Murshidul'adzam Shah I. It was commissioned on the orders of the Sultan who vowed that he would build a mosque of great beauty as thanksgiving for recovery from an illness which plagued him in those early days. Colonel Huxley, from the Public Works Department, were ordered by the Perak Government to build the mosque and he commissioned A. B .Hubbeck, a government architect and Mr.Caulfield as the chief engineer. On Friday, 26th September 1913, Sultan Idris Mursyidul'adzam Shah, officiated the construction of the mosque. The mosque was officially opened in 1916 by Sultan Abdul Jalil Nasarudin Syah, successor to Sultan Idris. The cost to built the mosque is said to be about $200,000 and it took 4 years to complete. It consist of 'Moghul' style onion domes, symmetrical in design with a central dome of imposing dimension, four wings with four smaller domes and a total of 24 minarets of diverse heights.
According to story, one day during a ceremony and a feast to celebrate circumcision of Raja Khalid, son of Sultan Abdul Jalil, His Highness elephant, named Kulub Chandan and his mahout, Kulub Said, fought another elephant named Kulub Gangga and his mahout, Uda Dabok (the latter belong to Raja Chulan). The marbles and materials for the mosque were totally destroyed. The battle lasted about several hours, only when Raja Chulan called his elephant by name and commanded it to stop fighting.

Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque - Shah Alam, Malaysia
|
|
I was brought around this beautiful masjid on the 1st Oct. 2004 by Nur Adura, an x-JICA participant.
She lives at Shah Alam.
One of the largest mosques in South-east Asia, this impressive building is frequently referred to as "the blue mosque." It is huge and magnificent--with an enormous, dark blue dome and four minarets standing at 142.3 metres. Decorative Islamic calligraphy enhances the dome and main prayer-hall, while the overall architecture integrates ethnic Malay design elements. The mosque is adjoined by a small lake, which makes it a particularly serene setting, especially at sunset.
The mosque is a holy place of superlatives with four 40-meter-high (132-foot) minarets, some of the tallest in the world. It can accommodate about 24,000 worshippers under a computer-designed dome whose lighting system creates the illusion of being in the desert on a star-filled night.
This breathtaking mosque is an awesome sight; you can spot its blue dome 繝サsaid to be the largest in the world 繝サfrom quite a distance away.

I reached KL on 29th Sept. and went straight to Aida's house. The next morning, she brought me around this beautiful place.
WHAT IS PUTRAJAYA?
Putrajaya is the new Administrative Centre of the Federal Government of Malaysia taking the capital city away from Kuala Lumpur (population 1.8mn), leaving Kuala Lumpur as the country's financial and commercial capital. Moving the national administrative machinery from Kuala Lumpur to Putrajaya is in line with the Government's policy to provide a more balanced development away from Kuala Lumpur. It is a decision motivated by life in Kuala Lumpur and ensure continued growth in the Klang Valley.
Situated along the South Growth Corridor within the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC), the development of Putrajaya marks a new chapter in the history of modern city planning in Malaysia. It is set to be a model garden city with sophisticated information network base on multimedia technologies. Termed as Malaysia's first Intelligent Garden City, Putrajaya will become a vital development catalyst due to the role it will assume as a model city - as the nerve centre of the nation and an ideal place to live, work, conduct business and engage in sports and recreational activities.
Supporting the MSC is a high capacity, fully digital telecommunications infrastructure designed to the highest international standards in capacity and reliability. Putrajaya will use multimedia technologies to become an electronic administrative centre. Interdepartmental communications and interactions with the public will be conducted via electronic and multimedia channels. The development of Putrajaya and its twin city, Cyberjaya, will position the MSC competitively in the international arena.
Putrajaya promises a comfortable and quality lifestyle for its residents. Lush greenery, botanical gardens and parks are spread across landscapes enhanced by large bodies of water and wetlands. Residential areas are supported by commercial hubs and public amenities that are planned and integrated for an ideal "live-work" environment.
The Perdana Putra Building, at 50m above sea-level, overlooks the Putrajaya Lake and is the Prime Minister's Department Complex. The natural stone clad building with its green pitched roof and onion-shaped main dome, surrounded by four smaller domes forms the distinctive land mark of Putrajaya. Perdana Putra is a six storey building comprising the Main Block and flanked by the East and West Wings. The Prime Minister's Office is located at the Central Main Block and is distinguished by the distinctively topped main dome design that resembles the Zahir Mosque in Alor Setar, Kedah.
The West Wing consists of offices of the Deputy Prime Minister, Ministers and Deputy Ministers as well as Parliamentary Secretaries in the Prime Minister's Department. The Malaysian Industries-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Advisory Board are also located here.
The East Wing houses the offices of the Chief Secretary to the Government, Cabinet Divisions and the Implementation and Coordination Unit (ICU).
